Places to Donate for the New Year

I hope this finds you enjoying the New Year! This is the time of year when many of us resolve to clean out and organize – as part of our resolutions – or simply making space for the new things we have received over holidays. If you are getting rid of used items (or unwanted gifts!), consider donating them to one of the local charities in this area.
The following list includes some places you may not have heard of, and ways to donate some things you weren’t sure how to pass along.

The 911 Cell Bank accepts used cell phones. Use their handy shipping labels that you can print at their website. They pay for shipping.
Dress for Success accepts conservative women’s attire suitable for a job interviews. Donate at Keller Williams Realty, 1516 East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill or 211 Shannon Road, Suite 140 in Durham.
Freedom House needs blankets, toiletries, winter attire, computers, sweatsuits. Drop off your donations at 104 New Stateside Drive, Chapel Hill.
Goodwill accepts clothing, household items, and furniture. They are located at 4318 Garrett Road and 5267 North Roxboro Road in Durham.
Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore will take your used appliances 5 years or newer, furniture, and building supplies. Take them to 5501 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd. in Durham.
PTA Thrift Shops need donations of clothing and other household items. There are two places to drop off, 103 Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro and Village Plaza at 103 S. Elliott Road in Chapel Hill.
The Rotary Club collects used eyeglasses. Visit www.durhamrotaryclub.org for their meeting times.
The Salvation Army, at 909 Liberty Street in Durham, will take clothing, furniture, working appliance, household items, computers, and cell phones.
Souls4Soles will recycle your gently worn shoes at. Drop them off at ActivEdge Fitness & Sports Performance, 4221 Garrett Road, Stevens Wellness, 1802 Martin Luther King Parkway, or Foot Solutions at 8200 Renaissance Parkway or 8531-113 Brier Creek Parkway.
Triangle Residential Options needs vehicles. If you received the gift of a new car, consider giving your old one to for Substance Abuse.
The Vietnam Veterans of America will pick up clothing and small household items. Schedule an appointment online at http://www.scheduleapickup.com.
