April Events in Chapel Hill…

April 2, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Did you enjoy the weather in Chapel Hill yesterday?

…Today We’re Contra Dancing!

Dancing is one of my favorite things to do. You can’t go dancing and not start smiling. That’s one of the things I love about it – you always feel good when you’re done. A few years ago I was looking for a fun exercise that I could do with other people, and I stumbled across my first Contra dance in Carrboro. I instantly fell in love with this upbeat, energetic, anybody can do it dance!

If you’re not familiar with it, Contra dancing is a group folk dance that mixes happy dancers, great musicians, fabulously upbeat music and swell choreography for an unforgettable time of fun for all ages. Seriously, it defies description, which is why I’ve included the YouTube video for you to watch.

I think Contra dancing is as much fun as eating ice cream, and coming from me, that’s saying a lot. So on April 2nd, if you’re lookign for a feel good thing to do, head over to the Carrboro Century Center and be a dancing fool to the music of Atlantic Crossing (that’s the band in the video) with Cis Hinkle calling. The dance starts at 8:00 and costs $9.00 per person. Wear soft shoes.

Happy April,

Crazy Viv

PS If you don’t know how to Contra dance, it’s not a problem. Beginner lessons are at 7:30. And Contra dancers are known for how encouraging they are to beginners. It’s part of the charm.
